Sorority Life: Attending Convention
Tuesday, June 01, 2010
Convention is one of the best resources that each NPC sorority provides for its membership. When members are curious about what "national" does with all those dues--attendance at convention allows members to learn about the sorority's operations and programs. More important, it is a wonderful way to meet sisters of all ages from chapters all over the country.
Convention provides a myriad of opportunities to collegiate and alumnae members. Probably the most memorable aspect of convention is the new friendships and networking opportunities available to sisters. Many past convention attendees report that the sharing of ideas and information--whether as undergraduates, advisors or alumnae officers--is very valuable.
Convention offer outstanding leadership and personal growth programs to enhance each sister's skill set. Many groups offer community service opportunities at their conventions, further underscoring NPC sororities' commitment to giving back. Additionally, convention is a great way for sisters to interface with the inter/national organization. Inter/national officers, headquarters staff and foundation volunteers all attend the event.
Another highlight of convention is the awards presentations. That public recognition of excellence is appreciated on both the collegiate and alumnae level. Spotlighting the best of the best also gives other chapters role models to strive to emulate.
Conventions typically produce a resurgence of pride and love for your sorority. Many attendees also experience a deeper appreciation for their sorority experience. Every sister should attend a convention.
