Britta Christine Hill

Britta Christine Hill had never been away from her family for more than a week. The warm welcome of her sorority sisters has made her feel right at home.

Who I Am

Going to college was a big step for me because I had never been away from my family for more than a week. All of my best friends went to the same university, close to home, and all joined the same sorority. In the beginning, I was so afraid that I would be so far from home (Kansas to Illinois) and not know anyone. It was difficult for me to take the opposite path that all my friends were taking. But I cannot explain how happy I am. I cannot imagine myself at any other University or in any other sorority. I am still so close to my friends from home, but school has also become my home now, and my friends from school are just as important to me. I feel so lucky.

Words to Live By

Follow your heart. I have always been a very indecisive person. My mom once said that to me, and it has stuck with me ever since. It always helps me figure things out during the good times or the bad. Follow your heart and everything will be okay!

Goals

My most current goal is to be accepted to the KU School of Education. Then, I want to graduate and get a job back in Chicago at an elementary school.  I also hope to coach a lacrosse team someday!

Why I Joined

I thought it would be a great way to meet people since I am an out-of-state student. I learned about the benefits, networks, and opportunities a sorority can provide for you.

My Sisters

I never would have thought that I would become such good friends with complete strangers. They are all so important in many ways. They are so supportive and helpful. For example, I did not have my car in Kansas my freshman year, but they were all so supportive and helpful driving me to lacrosse practice, meetings, volunteer work... etc. They have become the people I am closest with and feel most comfortable around.

What is Sorority Life Really Like?

Sorority life is great. It’s a lot of fun. Everyday I learn something new about another one of my sisters. There is always someone to watch a movie or TV show with, and there is always someone to go out with. I always have support during the good times and the bad.

My Advice

Be yourself.

Activities

I am a member of the lacrosse team at KU. I volunteer at Langston Hughes Elementary School in Lawrence, Kansas. I play on an intramural softball and soccer team. And I was a member of a student panel that answers questions for prospective KU students.

Favorite Band

I love all types of music. I love singing to old songs from the 80s, but I also love current bands and artists. I have a very eclectic taste in music.

Favorite Book

My favorite magazine is InStyle and my favorite book is The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

Favorite Place

Home sweet home. The city of Chicago.

Hobbies

I have played lacrosse all through high school, and I play on the team at the University of Kansas, so lacrosse is very important to me. However, I love all sports. Exercise is important to me, as well as dancing, laughing, taking pictures, sleeping and so much more!
